Circulitr – Terms of Use

1. About circulitr

Circulitr is a platform that helps people near each other discover, lend and borrow physical books, and connect over what they read. It is operated by Amrita Sharma, an individual based in Goa, India (“circulitr”, “we”, “us”).

By creating an account or using circulitr at circulitr.web.app or any other circulitr domain, you agree to these Terms of Use and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use circulitr.

2. Who can use circulitr

• You must be 18 years or older. By signing up, you confirm that you are.
• You may hold only one account, and it is for your personal use.
• The information you give us, including your name and email, must be accurate and kept up to date.
• You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for activity on your account. Tell us at [email protected] if you think your account has been misused.

3. How lending works

Circulitr connects readers; it is not a party to any loan between users. Every lend or borrow is an arrangement directly between the two people involved.

• Books stay the owner’s property. Lending a book does not transfer ownership.
• Borrowers agree to take reasonable care of borrowed books and return them in the agreed condition and by the agreed time.
• Lenders are responsible for what they list and for deciding whom to lend to.
• Loss, damage or non-return is a matter between the lender and borrower. Circulitr does not guarantee any book, any loan, or any user’s conduct, and is not liable to replace or pay for books.
• Meeting in person: meet in public places, tell someone where you are going, and use your own judgment. Circulitr does not verify users’ identities and is not responsible for what happens at a handoff.
• Circulitr may show loan status, reminders or ratings to help, but these are tools, not guarantees.

4. Lits

Lits are in-app points you earn and use within circulitr, for example by lending books.

• Lits have no monetary value. They cannot be bought, sold, transferred for money, exchanged for cash, or redeemed outside circulitr.
• Lits are not a currency, deposit, wallet or payment instrument, and do not earn interest.
• We may change how Lits are earned or used, adjust balances to correct errors or abuse, or discontinue Lits, without compensation.
• Lits are removed when an account is closed or terminated.

5. Your content

“Your content” means what you post on circulitr: listings, book photos, profile photo, reviews, ratings and chat messages.

• You own your content. You give circulitr a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display and share it within the service so circulitr can work (for example, showing your listing or review to nearby readers). This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies kept for legal reasons or backups for a limited time.
• You confirm you have the right to post your content, and that it is accurate and lawful.
• Reporting and blocking: you can report content or users that break these Terms, and block other users. We review reports and may remove content or restrict accounts.
• We may remove any content, at our discretion, that breaks these Terms or the law.

6. What you must not do

• Harass, threaten, abuse, stalk or intimidate anyone, on circulitr or at a meetup.
• Post content that is unlawful, obscene, hateful, defamatory, or that infringes someone else’s rights, including pirated copies of books.
• Use circulitr to sell books or other goods, advertise, or spam other users.
• Misrepresent who you are, create fake accounts, or misuse another person’s account.
• Share other people’s personal information without their consent, including their location.
• Manipulate Lits, ratings or reviews, or exploit bugs.
• Scrape, copy or collect data from circulitr by automated means, or interfere with its security or operation.

7. Suspending or closing accounts

• You can delete your account at any time from the app, or by writing to [email protected]. Active loans should be settled with the other person first.
• We may suspend or close an account, or remove access to features, if it breaks these Terms, puts other users at risk, or if we are required to by law. Where reasonable, we will tell you why.
• We may change, pause or stop circulitr or any feature. If we shut down the service, we will try to give advance notice.

8. Disclaimers and limits of liability

• Circulitr is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not promise it will always be available, error-free, or that any book or user will be as described.
• To the extent the law allows, circulitr is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss, damage or theft of books, or for the acts of other users, including at in-person meetups.
• To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to INR 1,000.
• Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under Indian law that cannot be excluded.

9. Circulitr’s own content and other sites

• The circulitr name, logo, design, and the app’s software and text belong to Amrita Sharma. You may not copy, modify, scrape or reuse them without written permission. This does not cover your own content (section 5).
• Book details and cover images may come from third-party services such as Google Books and belong to their respective owners.
• Circulitr may link to other websites. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for their content or privacy practices.

10. Law, complaints and changes

• Governing law: these Terms are governed by the laws of India. Courts in Goa have exclusive jurisdiction.
• Grievance Officer: for complaints about content, users or these Terms, contact Amrita Sharma, Grievance Officer, at [email protected]. We will acknowledge a complaint within 24 hours and aim to resolve it within 15 days.
• Changes: we may update these Terms. For significant changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use circulitr after that means you accept the updated Terms.
